“Good design is eco-friendly” is one of the ten rules of Dieter Rams, a German industrial designer, a leading designer at Braun from 1962 to 1995, a person who influenced the development of the field.
His message then applied more to industrial design:
But the term eco-friendly-design has been actively used in the last couple of years in all areas of design. And if we talk about what it includes, then for each sphere it is a different concept. Let's take this term as an example of three popular design trends: graphic, industrial, and interior design.
In graphic and web design, “eco-friendly design” primarily refers to the purity of the user's perception of the product. Now there are a lot of ads and unnecessary information, which is visual noise. Ecological-the design provides for the maximum elimination of third-party elements. That is, a clean and simple design is eco-friendly for our perception.
In industrial design, “eco-friendly” still has a more direct and familiar meaning. If a product (such as a lunch box, a thermos, a decorative item, a product box, or anything else) is made from recyclable materials and becomes one at the end of its service life, then this is an eco-friendly design. But if the product created an ocean of garbage, then no.
In interior design, environmental friendliness is primarily about materials that are safe and non-toxic. Just like in industrial design, you can mark reused materials.
In interior design, do not confuse eco-style and eco-design. Since eco-style is the use of natural materials, that is, killing nature for the sake of visual effect. And eco-design is the concept of using materials with the least damage to the environment.
