If this is “verbal diarrhea”, then no way. Just wait in silence for the person to speak out. Many people have this need.
And if these are constant poisonous remarks, then most likely the person is offended in life, he lacks love and attention. Maybe you're hurting him yourself. And this is a defensive reaction.
