Please note that here this Pigarev is being smashed to smithereens, and his published article turned out to have many verifiable factual errors, which suggests that it is not for nothing that the visceral theory of sleep proposed by him is still considered marginal.

Perhaps dreams have no meaning. Check out Ivan Pigarev's visceral theory of sleep. In a nutshell, during sleep, your brain works on problems of internal organs, and more or less coherent pictures that you see in a dream are something like a side effect.
