Can I have a 3rd answer?- If yes, then…
I read it on Wikipedia: metadata is data about data. Metaconsciousness is consciousness about consciousness.
“I know everything, but not myself” is a poem by Francois Villon.
The next level of consciousness is self – awareness. Man RISES above his reason. And what does he see?”It means that his mind is BASE, mired in the sordid concerns of everyday life. This is repentance.
That is, repentance is an indicator that we are moving in the right direction: up. If it were in the side or down, then there would be no repentance.
In those religions where there is no initial repentance, there is no movement to God.
Man is sinful and the world is fallen – this is a view from the point of view of God.
Thank you, ah, for making me think about this.
My credo is theistic evolutionism. The idea of evolution explains religion very well. But for some reason, believers don't like this idea. And that's why. Evolution is the self, an animal that steps up. And religion is like I'm not an animal at all. I'm an angel who happens to be in an animal body.
This question is the key to understanding Russia's mission. Repentance is the beginning, the first step of metanoia: the need to transform. But the beginning of the end of the world will be in Russia. After all, you will have to give up not only money, sex, etc., but also your mind. Russian chip-crazy.
Meta means “beyond” (cf. metaphysics, metagalaxy). Christ and John the Baptist called for superconsciousness. “For the kingdom of God is at hand.” Which is, roughly speaking, super-matter. And superconsciousness must be possessed by the people who will inhabit this superworld, so to speak.
Repent-KMK on behalf of “Cain” (Genesis ch. 4), who killed his brother. “Give repentance to Cain” from the prayer of Bulat Okudzhava.
Note that Cain and the entire super-sinful first trinity (Adam, Eve, Cain) are still the Old Testament, Judaism.
Chapter 3 of the beginning of the Bible is the BIRTH of CONSCIENCE, SHAME (2:25, 3:7,10). But this is veiled: nag. Impudence, nudity, animality. The shame of animality.
For Orthodox Christians, especially Russians, repentance is the beginning of all beginnings. All spiritual practices begin with ” Lord, have mercy on me a sinner.” I recall the great Russian literature, the main theme of which is the torment of conscience, even in the novel about adultery (Anna Karenina).
Before Holy Communion, you must stand in line for confession. There is no such order anywhere else. But after all, this is a real drive: the transition from step to step: confession is a rejection of the low level, communion is an ascent to the upper one.
Why is metanoia translated into Russian in this way? Imagine: more than a thousand years have passed since the coming of the Kingdom of God. But you can't see him. What's wrong? But: people are mired in the social sphere, in the matter. And they don't want to hear about Armageddon. The translators thought something like this, imagining themselves to be Old Testament prophets.
Sorry, I'm writing the second version of the answer. The question of repentance is very broad.
What is the main difference between a person and the rest of the universe?- AWARENESS OF THE SINFULNESS, WRONGNESS OF ONESELF AND THE FALLEN NATURE OF THE WORLD. As long as this awareness is not there, I am an animal. When it appeared, I rose a little higher than the creature, became a little closer to the Creator. The first step to the promised Kingdom.
This is understandable. But why did Christ not speak of repentance (except in Mt 6: 12, “Pray, do not exact our debts”, debts=sins), and the word “Repent” appeared in translations? Russian or English?
Perhaps Christ, out of delicacy, did not want to start communicating with humanity with attacks. And then, 1000 years later, he inspired Christians with a burning need for repentance.
If in general terms, then it is identical. Metanoia is penance in Greek. You regret the evil you have done and try not to do it again.
But if you analyze the etymology, they have different semantic shades.
“Repent “comes from” kayati ” = “blame”, “punish”. That is, you blame, scold, punish yourself for a bad act, thought. And the etymology of the word does not imply that after that you will stop doing evil.
“Metanoia “comes from” meta ” = “change” + ” nus ” = “mind”, “thought”. That is, you have changed your way of thinking, and therefore your actions, words, and thoughts. You have changed, you have turned from evil to good, and you are no longer sinning. And the etymology of the word does not imply that you need to lament and self-deprecate for this.
And it turned out this way, because there are no identical words. Even words that refer to the same subject in different languages will be different words. They have different etymologies, emotional and semantic color, usage, etc. There are no full synonyms, there will always be some difference. If it didn't exist, then two different words wouldn't be needed.
