  1. There are many treatises on such criteria, but as the main ones I would single out three:

    1. Consistency (everything is clear here)

    2. Refutability or falsifiability (when it is possible to present conditions under which the statement is incorrect)

    3. Verifiability (i.e. verifiability or reproducibility under experimental conditions).

    The second and third are from Karl Popper, the first is general-purpose.
