Repentance is asking for God's forgiveness.
If you ask for forgiveness from a person, you sort of get rid of the burden in your heart that was in your heart, because you did something to this person, and your conscience condemns you, so you ask for forgiveness, and after that you feel good, and you can safely communicate with this person again, and cats no longer scratch your heart.
It is the same with repentance before God, because they repent for their sins, and sin is what God called sin, and what God does not like, and when you repent of your sins before God, your heart also becomes free, and you are no longer ashamed to look at God.

In the article “On Repentance and Changing one's Life” I read that Cyril and Methodius encountered difficulties in translating spiritual books into Slavic. For some Christian concepts, there was no corresponding equivalent in the language of our ancestors.
One of those words was “metanoia.” It was translated as repentance, that is, confession of one's sins. But the Russian word does not convey the full range of meanings of the Greek concept. You may get the impression that it is enough to admit your sinfulness and you can continue to sin.
But matanoya means insight and change. This means that a person must realize not only that some actions are displeasing to God, but also agree with him, understand and accept his standards of holiness. And, of course, change your lifestyle.
