It's easy to understand, to be honest(!) answer the question: “why am I doing this?”. Self-expression is something that does not require any assessment or reaction of the surrounding world (people), exists outside of value judgments, and brings satisfaction regardless of the reaction to it.
The desire to attract attention is the other pole: everything done for this reason gains value only through the prism of other people's reactions. No reaction – no satisfaction (at best), often the absence of the expected reaction can lead to frustration.
