  1. Perfectionism, striving for harmony of the external and internal. Hence ; ” they meet by their clothes…”, they judge the internal by the external. Probably, there are also signs of standardization and unification. But there is also the opposite effect, when the “ugly duckling” becomes some kind of ideal, a standard. As, for example, (what is the name of such a hairstyle, when the strands stick out in all directions, very perky…?), or fashion for torn jeans, or a Hummer car (see A. Haley “Wheels”, arguments about automotive design). So it's not always a bad thing that hurts your eyes.
