  1. Here another question is legitimate – was there a language of interethnic communication in the Middle Ages (and later), in which monarchs who were often illiterate at that time could communicate in private meetings, for example?

Alternative historians claim that this language was the so-called “Rustico Romano”, which was most similar to modern Serbo-Croatian.

  2. There is no evidence that the Tower of Babel actually existed. It is a Jewish myth, but the real structure (or its ruins) was not found. It is believed that the legend originated on the basis of ziggurats that were built in Mesopotamia at that time, and the Tower of Babel and its story is a legend based on the fall of one of the ziggurats that could not support its own weight.

However, getting back to the question, ” first people “and” before the Tower of Babel ” are different concepts. Before the theoretical construction of the tower, people had already lived on Earth for many hundreds of thousands of years, and had different languages that disappeared, changed, evolved, appeared, were forgotten, and so on. If you are interested in the question of those people who lived on the territory of Mesopotamia (Babylon) in the near future before the construction of the tower (second century BC), there are two options. When the tower was being built, the Akkadian language was already in use in Mesopotamia, i.e., it was used even before the tower was built, but relatively briefly. Before the Akkadian language, Sumerian was used in this area, which was preserved even during the construction of the tower, but already had the meaning of a cult, and not everyday.

Nevertheless, the story of the common language that existed on Earth before the tower was built is a myth, a beautiful fairy tale that explains the fall of the structure. In fact, no ruins of the tower or a clear location were found, and the description of the tower is found only on clay tablets describing other legends, and therefore the legend of the Tower of Babel should not be considered a real structure and real history.
